DISTANCE EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONS 

DE COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  •  If you enroll in an online course during Summer I or Summer II, you must access your class on Moodle by midnight of the first day of the semester or you will be dropped from the class. 
     
  • If you enroll in an online course during the Fall or Spring, you must access your class on  Moodle by midnight of the 4th day of the semester or you will be dropped from the class.
     
  • All DE students must have:
    • daily access to a computer with internet access,
    • an active e-mail account, and
    • basic computer skills.

 TYPES OF DE COURSES:

  • Hybrid Course - Hybrid courses deliver at least 50% of the course material online.  The remainder of the class is taught in the traditional face-to-face setting which requires that the student attend the BRTC campus.  Additional media may be incorporated in the course.
  • Online Course - An online course is held completely online.  All communication is conducted over the computer via e-mail, Blackboard, and/or other electronic format.  All assignments, sometimes including exams, are conducted over the computer.  Some students will be required to take exams on campus.
  • CVN Course - A CVN course is held via compressed video.  While students attend classes on campus, the instructor may either be in the classroom or be broadcast to students via television from a remote site.  CVN courses include students from two or more different sites.  If the instructor is at a different site, a proctor will administer exams.  All assignments will be transmitted over Blackboard or passed between campuses by a courier.

Students WILL NOT be able to access their class until the first day of classes. In addition, students may not be able to access Moodle AT ALL until the first day of class.

Tuition and Fees 

Tuition and fees for the Fall and Spring Semesters must be paid in full by the fifth day of the semester.

Tuition and fees for Summer Terms must be paid in full by the third day of the term.

Payment options are available to students through FACTS tuition ManagementNOTE- Deadlines for setting up payments are not the same as the tuition due date.  Please refer to e-Cashier  on the BRTC Home Page.

Students who have not paid their account in full or have not set up payment arrangements by the deadlines will be DROPPED FROM ALL CLASSES.  Students who have been dropped for lack of payment will have five (5) business days to re-enroll by paying a $50 REINSTATEMENT FEE and all tuition and fees in full.

REFUND POLICY

Students enrolled in classes which are cancelled may request a 100% refund. No refund of tuition will be made unless claim is made through the Finance Office at the time of withdrawal. Refunds will apply to tuition only.  Technology fees are NOT refundable.

Tuition Refunds for Intersession:
100% through the first day of class
50% through the second day of class
0% third day of class

Tuition Refunds for Summer I and Summer II:
100% before semester begins
50% fourth day of semester      
0% fifth day of semester

Tuition Refunds for Fall/Spring:
100% before semester begins           
70% second week of semester         
50% third week of semester           
Students enrolled in classes which are cancelled may request a 100% refund.

Bookstore Refunds
Refunds will only be made during the first week of summer and intercession terms.
Refunds will only be made during the first two weeks of the Fall/Spring semester:

Refunds will only be made if : 

  • New Book has defect from publisher.
  • New Book is still in same condition as it came from the publisher (example: shrink wrapped).
  • New Book has not been written/marked in and spine is not broken.
  • Used books are purchased for wrong class.
  • Receipt is required for all bookstore returns.

STUDENT APPEAL FOR TUITION CHARGES

Students who contend they have not attended any classes at BRTC will have the semester in which they enrolled, and did not attend, to appeal any charges for tuition and fees.  Students who do not appeal within the semester enrolled will be considered to have attended and will be responsible for all charges generated.  Students wishing to utilize this appeal must adhere to the appeal process in the student handbook located in the college catalog.

TRANSFER COURSES

Courses marked by (*) will transfer to Arkansas State University to satisfy curriculum or elective requirements, depending upon the degree program. Courses marked by (**) will satisfy the developmental/remedial courses at Arkansas State University that are required by law to update academic skills.

TO ADD OR DROP A CLASS

A DROP/ADD form can be obtained at the Registration Window in Student Services. Please complete the form, obtain the necessary signatures from the Financial Aid Officer and Student Account Payment Center, and return the form to the Registration Window. Do not leave the form until it has been processed by a staff member and you have received a printout showing the change made to your schedule.

A student may drop a course by calling (870) 248-4000, extension 4013, 4015, 4016, 4018. You must personally talk to a staff member at these extensions before your drop will be processed.

HOLDS ON STUDENT FILES

Failure to complete the admissions process and/or pay tuition or other charges can result in a student�s file being placed on hold. This means that the student will not receive grades or obtain copies of their transcript or any other information from their file until the holds have been removed. It is the student's responsibility to resolve the problem. For academic holds, please call ext. 4016, 4018, 4013, or 4015. For financial holds, please call ext. 4033.

TRANSCRIPT REQUEST

A written request from the student must contain the following information: Student signature, Social Security Number, where to send the transcript, and the last term attended at BRTC. Transcript request forms are available at the Registration Window or online at www.blackrivertech.edu/student_services/. There is no charge for a transcript.

ENROLLMENT STATUS

Full-time enrollment is considered 6 hours each summer session (except for financial aid purposes).  Full-time enrollment is considered 12 hours each Fall/Spring session.

CAMPUS CONNECT

BRTC has an online program for students. This program contains information for the students as well as online registration. New students will receive a PIN number when registering. The web address is http://connect.blackrivertech.org.

UCR REPORT (Uniform Crime Report)

Title II of the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 requires the collection and dissemination of the violations listed below.   

If any of the stated incidents occur, it must be reported to BRTC's Security Officer, Mr. Scott Bland or Mr. Tony Saylors.  Officer Bland and Officer Saylors are housed on the BRTC campus at AD112 or they can be contacted at (870) 248-4000 ext 4034.

A report must be made/filed with the security officer within 72 hours of the incident's occurrence.  The security office must file a report with the local and/or state authorities within 24 hours of the reported incident.
